Basingstoke and Overton Nappy Library is run by volunteers from Sustainable Overton who are passionate about reusable nappies. We know that the world of reusable nappies can be daunting and overwhelming when starting out and to save you time, money and stress, we're here to help.
​
A grant from Hampshire County Council enabled us to buy a range of kits to hire out, initially to families in Overton and surrounding villages. We then merged with Basingstoke Nappy Library so we could reach more parents and now we help families from across North Hampshire. Entirely run by volunteers, we just love sharing our knowledge and experience with parents either starting out with reusable nappies or wanting help with a specific problem. We are dedicated to helping you choose the right kinds of nappies for your babies, with our range of kits which are designed to contain everything you need to find out what suits your family best.

Our Kits
Newborn kits - Suitable for babies from 6lb to 2-3 months old.
Full kit - All you need to use reusable nappies from birth full-time - including 20 nappies, liners, wraps, wet bags for out and about, and wet bag or bucket for storing nappies awaiting washing without smells.
Available to hire for 2 months (or longer if you need it) for £20.

Part-time kit - 10 nappies plus accessories, wet bags and reusable breastpads and wipes. Ideal for first-time parents who want to try reusable nappies without the pressure of making it your only option.
Available to hire for 2 months (or longer if you need it) for £15.
Birth to Potty trial kits - Suitable from about 3 months old.
A set of all types of nappies to try before you buy. There are so many types it's hard to know what will suit you and your baby so this kit is a great way to try out a whole range before you spend out your money. The kit contains all in ones, all in twos, pocket nappies, flat nappies, daytime and night-time nappies from a range of leading brands, plus a swimming nappy. The kits also include liners, wet bags, and bucket if needed, so you have all you need.
Hire the lot for a month for £10.
Give reusables a try kits - Suitable from about 3 months old.
A smaller set of nappies, designed to help you try out whether reusables are for you, before you even start to consider what you might buy. The kit contains one day + of simple to use day time nappies plus a night nappy, reusable wipes and wet bags. Great for anyone who is unsure, or wants to find out firsthand how reusables actually work, or wants to just go reusable on the weekend.
Hire this for £10 for 2 months.
Long-term hires

We have several long-term hire kits available for anyone to borrow, but especially aimed at families who might find the cost of buying reusables a bit of a stretch, or even just buying any sort of nappies. Reusables are a big up front cost which can be difficult, but even disposables are expensive week on week. These are kits with enough nappies to use full-time and include wet bags, and are available to borrow for as long as you need, with no hire fee, just a deposit which can be paid in instalments. All we ask if you return them to us once you no longer need them, so we can pass on to another family.
We have flexible payment plans and a variety of ways to help people buy their own nappies at a discount.

Full Time Toddler Kit:
A full kit of toddler nappies, ideal for those who have grown out of
BTP nappies but do not want the outlay of more nappies which may not be used for long
before potty training.
This kit is run on a 3 month rolling hire.
Cost: £5 for each month of use and £25 refundable deposit
Wipes
A great addition to any hire, but also available by themselves, we have kits of reusable wipes with boxes for storage and wet bags for using out and about. Wipes are simple to use, really effective at cleaning bottoms, kind to skin, cheap compared to disposable wipes and can be used even if you don’t use reusable nappies - just add to any wash. Hire for £5 to find out just how brilliant these are.

Need Advice?

We want to help you to decide what sort of nappies are right for you and help solve any problems you have.
When you hire a kit, our volunteers can explain the kits to you, demonstrate how to fit reusable nappies, talk you through how to wash them and then you take away a kit of reusable nappies to try.
We are available to answer questions and trouble shoot during your loan so you can have advice and support when you need it - we are also happy to advise anyone whether you hire from us or not. We try and visit local toddler groups and markets when we can to be on hand to give out help and advice.
